Description: City limits refer to the defined boundary or border of a city. Instead of a city boundary, a town, village, or corporate boundary may be present. Extraterritorial Jurisdictional (ETJ) Boundaries can be claimed by an authority over any external territory they wish, however, Nebraska has codified the limits of the extraterritorial jurisdictional boundaries to be between 1 and 5 miles, and may be rounded or squared off. ETJ boundaries are only valid if present in the administrative rules or charter of the community. DWEE maintains current community and ETJ boundaries for use in Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map creation, as a requirement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These boundaries must be updated before maps are created for a floodplain mapping project.
